1. FAIRER FUNDING FOR ENFIELD PETITION HITS 10,000 SIGNATURES TARGET:

The Enfield Over 50’s Forum, which organised the campaign, writes:

“ A big, big Thank You to everyone who collected signatures to our petition seeking to end the years of Enfield being under-funded and treated as a second class borough.

As soon as the General Election is over and we know who the Ministers are in the Treasury and the Department for Communities and Local Government we will be knocking on their door with the petition signed by some 10,000 people – over 1,600 of them online.   This was the largest number of supporting signatures we have had for a Forum campaign and special thanks are due to a host of people for the time, persistence and diligence they showed in making the case for a better deal for Enfield into one that matches the special needs of our community.”

2. UPDATE ON PINKHAM WAY: INSPECTOR’S REPORT SUPPORTS CONSERVATION:

The Pinkham Way Alliance has announced a major victory in its campaign to save the woodland by the Pinkham Way section of the North Circular Road.  The report follows hearings held last August in which the Alliance played a pivotal role. PWA Chair Stephen Brice reports:

PINKHAM WAY REMOVED

Pinkham Way will be removed from Haringey’s ‘Site Allocations’ – the Council admitted at the hearing that it wasn’t needed for its employment strategy.

So, potential developers will no longer be able to argue that a development’s benefit (i.e. its contribution to the borough’s employment needs) outweighs the harm to nature conservation. This is a very big win indeed for residents.

‘EMPLOYMENT’ DESIGNATION REMAINS…

We’ve long argued that this green site is environmentally valuable and should be protected, and that its current planning designation for ’employment’ is wrong. From her report, it’s clear that the Inspector agrees. However, she didn’t have the power to recommend removal of the employment designation. This is because the matters before her were ‘modifications’ to policies rather than the policies themselves.(….)

NEXT STEPS

With the weight of this report behind us, we can concentrate on pushing for the removal of the site from the next version of the North London Waste Plan (NLWP), due towards the end of the year. As ever, please watch this space…

You can read our full summary of what the Inspector’s report means for the future of Pinkham Way.

5. SHOPPING AT TESCO? YOU CAN SUPPORT THE FIRS FARM “GAMES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE” PROJECT: SOME CLOSURES POSSIBLE:

During June 2017 each time you make a purchase at any Tesco store in the area, you will be able to vote for 1 of 3 local projects selected for funding.  The Firs Farm project is appealing for local residents to support its project for Outdoor Table Tennis in Firs Farm.  Everyone will be able to play on these but the initial aim is for something for the older children.

The Firs Farm project along with the other two successful projects in our region will go forward to a vote in Tesco stores where their customers will decide the outcome by voting for their favourite project each time they shop. The project with the highest number of votes across your region will receive up to £4,000, the second placed project up to £2,000 and the third placed project £1,000.

With your help the Friends of Firs Farm hope to hold some fun table tennis competitions to help raise funds for other items in Firs Farm including a Festival next year and for other fun stuff in Firs Farm.

To vote, you will need to make a purchase within store of any value. You will receive one token per transaction and it’s not necessary to purchase a carrier bag in order to receive a token.
