2. THIS COULD SERIOUSLY AFFECT YOUR HEALTH! NHS ENFIELD’S PROPOSAL TO RESTRICT ACCESS TO SOME NHS TREATMENTS. CONSULTATION CLOSES ON 31 MARCH:

This is a very important consultation affecting us all. Your views could make a difference. If Enfield residents do not respond, it could be assumed that we have no concerns about these proposals.

The NHS Enfield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is proposing  to tighten up the criteria used to decide who can access some common medical procedures, such as knee replacements, some types of breast restoration, treatment of some scars, operations for hernias, fitting of hearing aids, removal of bunions and others.

The consultation period is short (1-31 March) and some residents have expressed concern about the limited publicity, the length of the consultation papers., and the use of medical terminology, all of which may discourage participation. There are calls to extend the consultation period for these very detailed proposals to three months, as the CCG recently did with the more straightforward proposal on closing the paediatric assessment unit at Chase Farm Hospital. Enfield councillors have already passed on these concerns and the CCG’s response is awaited.

The explanatory paper can be found in the website of the CCG under “Consultation” “ Adherence to Evidence Based Medicine” (originally called Hard Choices).  http://www.enfieldccg.nhs.uk/consultations.htm

or

http://www.healthwatchenfield.co.uk/sites/default/files/uploads/FINAL_AEBM_consultation_document.pdf

The consultation questionnaire can be completed on the web, printed or requested from the CCG : email communications@enfieldccg.nhs.uk or phone  0203 688 2814

In a nutshell, it is claimed that many procedures offered routinely by the NHS are of limited clinical benefit to patients in some or all circumstances.   Some of the criteria to be applied under the proposals for deciding whether a patient can have a treatment include whether the patient is overweight, whether he or she smokes, the intensity of the pain or extent of the physical scarring or deformity. Conditions regarded as emergencies or those where there is suspected cancer will not be affected.

If you are concerned it is important that you complete the consultation questionnaire or you can give your views at public events on:

  • Wednesday 22 March 2017 2pm-4pm – Community House,311 Fore Street, Edmonton N9 0PZ Hosted by Healthwatch Enfield
  • Thursday 30 March 2017 2pm-4pm – Community House, 311 Fore Street, Edmonton N9 0PZ Hosted by Enfield Voluntary Action

Enfield CCG is offering to visit patient groups during the consultation period to discuss these proposals. If you would like to request a meeting, if you would like the document in another format or if you have any other queries, please contact communications@enfieldccg.nhs.uk or call 0203 688 2814

3. PALMERS GREEN CRIME UPDATE:

These brief reports are prepared by members of FLDRA who regularly volunteer to  attend CAPE meetings  (Community Action Partnerships in Enfield , which are attended by representatives from the Metropolitan Police. FLDRA aims to keep you  informed about crime trends in our area and to bring up issues of concern to residents.

Note: Palmers Green residents can have their  say on policing in our area in the March 2017 survey organised by the Safer Neighbourhoods team of the police at

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/JY37KB7

CAPE meeting 02/03/17:

  • Drugs: 2 homes in one of the alleyways off Palmers Green have been closed down, as it was found that drugs were being traded.
  • Alleyways/service roads in Palmers Green are a growing cause of concern as they are used by fly tippers, shop keepers and others who discard their rubbish, rough sleepers, drinkers and drug users. The worst are Osborne, Park, Windsor and Devonshire Roads.
  • Wine and spirits stolen from Morrisons are finding their way to social clubs in the Green Lanes area
  • Police are concerned about the amount of white vans left in the overspill car park that Morrisons share with a neighbouring car repair business
  • Break in at Betfred. Cash stolen from safe.
  • Attempted  break in at CEX next to Morrisons.
  • Firs Lane- Problems with youths and drugs.
  • Fox Lane -Expensive car stolen (keyless) . The theft was carried out by using a digital reader to obtain the number from just inside the front door of the owners home, who had laid the fob for the car just behind the front door.
  • Shoplifting-10 up by 4
  • Theft from cars-9 down by 2

5. REDEVELOPMENT PROPOSALS: CAMBRAI COURT (ALDERMANS HILL) AND SELBORNE ROAD:

FLDRA supported residents’ objections to a large redevelopment of Cambrai Court involving the addition of an additional floor to the block and a large extension to a house on the corner of Selborne Road and Fox Lane. The application for Cambrai Court has been refused and we wait to see if there is an appeal; the proposal for Selborne Road has been withdrawn. We anticipate that amended applications for both developments will be submitted in due course.
