2. FLY-TIPPING:

FLDRA has been discussing fly-tipping with Enfield Council for some time, seeking a solution to this unpleasant problem. In Palmers Green, it is most prevalent in some of the service roads and alleyways that run near Green Lanes and Aldermans Hill.   The Council has been proactive in that it has adopted a policy  to clear all reported fly tips within four hours of them being reported. Cllr Daniel Anderson, Cabinet Member for the Environment, points out that there is an extensive enforcement programme in place having issued over 900 fixed penalty notices over the last 12 months for dumped waste and fly tipping. In spite of the Council’s efforts, the experience of our members is that new fly-tips occur almost as soon as the rubbish has been cleared.

A BBC report dated 2 March 2017 published statistics that suggested that Enfield is the worst area in the country for fly-tipping. However, Councillor Anderson  points out that these statistics are wrong  because they do not compare like-with-like. Enfield’s figures, unlike most authorities, includes ALL waste cleared, not just the number of fly tips reported by residents. On a like by like basis, Enfield received 5,800 reports of fly tipping from residents in 2015/16, which is on a par with neighbouring authorities.

FLDRA has asked the Council to consider installing CCTV cameras in fly-tipping spots.

3. WHAT FUTURE FOR THE GREEN BELT? GREEN BELT FORUM MEETING 30 MARCH 2017:

(This is a brief summary of the meeting which took place on 17 Jan 2017)

Subject: Green Belt Forum- Thursday 30 March 2017 @ 7:30pm in the Council Chamber , Civic Centre.

The Forum is hosted by Enfield Council. At the last meeting, it considered a significant  report produced by the London School of Economics “A 21st Century Metropolitan Green Belt” on the status and future of the green belt. The report looked at the strong support for maintaining the green belt, in light of the need to increase the housing supply, and presented options for the future.  Information about the Forum and /or a copy of the full report can be obtained from :

4. EVENING AND WEEKEND GP APPOINTMENTS FOR ENFIELD PATIENTS:

The Enfield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is pleased to announce that a further two primary care access hubs will launch on Monday 27 February providing extra GP and nurse appointments in the evenings and at weekends to Enfield patients. The first hub opened on 1st December at Evergreen Primary Care Centre in Edmonton. For more information go to: http://www.enfieldccg.nhs.uk
The hubs are as follows:

The Woodberry Practice
1 Woodberry Avenue,
Winchmore Hill N21 3LE
Carlton House Surgery
28 Tenniswood Road,
Enfield EN1 3LL
Evergreen Primary Care Centre

1 Smythe Close

Edmonton N9 0TW

Hub opening hours are 6.30pm – 8pm weekdays and 8am – 8pm weekends and public holidays.  Patients can book urgent and routine appointments, either same day or in advance at any one of the three hubs, making it much easier for Enfield patients to get the care they need when they want it at a location that is convenient for them.

Patients registered with an Enfield GP practice (or those resident in Enfield but who have yet to register with an Enfield GP practice) can book an appointment with a local GP or nurse at a hub by either contacting their own GP practice, or by calling the service directly on 03000 333 666.
