2. PETITION AGAINST CLOSURE OF PALMERS GREEN WAITROSE:

A petition has been started against the closure of Palmers Green Waitrose. This is a popular and much valued store in this area. Apparently it’s not a foregone conclusion so the petition (and more money spent in store by customers) could still stop it relocating to the site of the former Green Dragon pub in Winchmore Hill. If you agree, please follow the link below to add your name to the petition, which already has several hundred signatures.

3. NEW SECONDARY SCHOOL PROJECT: WREN ACADEMY ENFIELD OPENING DELAYED:

Wren Academy has informed that, following a successful bid in 2015 to open a new secondary school in Enfield, it had hoped to open Wren Enfield in September 2018.

Despite all, the government has not yet been able to secure a site for the new school.

Efforts continue to find a site for Wren Enfield and an opening date will be announced in due course.

5. LATEST DESIGN PROPOSAL FOR THE PALMERS GREEN TRIANGLE:

triangle

This is the latest artist’s impression from Cycle Enfield of their plan for the Triangle. Key features are:

A semi -mature tree in the centre with seating around.

Some shrubs at the apex of the Triangle and around some of the edges (but no railings) so not protected from traffic apart from the raised kerb.

Benches facing inwards and scattered ‘cube’ seating.

The historic signpost and clock retained but repositioned.

Only one lane of traffic on the north side turning left into Green Lanes, two lanes of traffic in opposite directions on the south side (any traffic coming down Aldermans Hill will have to split into the correct lane  just before the Triangle.)

Three traffic- controlled crossings for pedestrians from the Triangle – the main one being across Green Lanes as all refuges and other crossing points have been removed.

It appears that the Triangle has been reduced in size by about 20% but there should be space for a table/stall for local groups. Two new trees and a bench are shown outside Starbucks and a further three trees and bench are proposed on the pavement to the south by HSBC bank.

There is no information about the bus stop by Morrisons but, if it is maintained in the same spot, then there will be congestion behind it whenever it stops as there is only one lane of traffic going up Aldermans Hill.

Work on the Triangle is expected to start in June see www.cycleenfield.co.uk/construction

6. TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF TRENT PARK MAIN GATES 6-9 MARCH:

The Friends of Trent Country Park have informed that the main gates will be closed for all traffic for 4 days between  March 6-9 inclusive so that essential repair work can be carried out. Notices have been put up by LBE. An alternative pedestrian entrance close by will be signposted. Those wishing to access the park by car should park in the Hadley Road car park.

There will inevitably be some increased parking activity in neighbouring roads and it is hoped everyone will be understanding for this important work to be completed and the gates secured for the future.
