This is Gonul’s first cookery book and comes from a desire to keep her mother’s fantastic Turkish based cooking alive. Like her mother she cooks daily and her kitchen is a working kitchen.
Gonul says “Food has always been the main focus of our family life. Our family of eight would sit around the kitchen table every evening at 7 o’clock to eat dinner together. It was an unwritten rule that we were all in by 7 o’clock and there was no going out until the meal was over. We would have to leave friends homes early to be back in time for dinner. We didn’t mind because they were the rules. My mum put a hot meal on the table everyday without fail. Most times we loved it but even if we didn’t we still sat, ate and talked about the day.”
